Bengaluru 12 July 2018: The fourteenth edition of India Innovation Summit with the theme “India.AI – Driving the future of the world” was inaugurated today at Hotel Lalit Ashok, Bengaluru in the presence of Shri. K J George, Hon’ble Minister for IT/BT & ST, Large and Medium Scale Industries with Sugar, Government of Karnataka in the presence of Mr. Gaurav Gupta, Principal Secretary, Department of IT/BT& ST, Government of Karnataka, India Innovation Summit Chairman, Shri. Kris Gopalakrishnan, Mr. Vijay Thadani, Vice Chairman and Managing Director, NIIT Limited and Dr. N Muthukumar, Chairman, CII – Karnataka. The two day summit will deliberate on Innovation, policy and collaboration while focusing on emerging technologies such as Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, Machine Learning and the like. Hon’ble Minister Shri K.J George also inaugurated the exhibition center at India Innovation Summit 2018 which showcased unique start ups in the emerging technology space.
Delivering the keynote address on behalf of Hon’ble Chief minister of Karnataka Shri. H D Kumaraswamy, Shri. K J George, Hon’ble Minister for IT/BT & ST, Large and Medium Scale Industries with Sugar, Government of Karnataka said, “India has moved up in the global innovation index and established herself as an innovation power in Asia. Karnataka has been a leader in the knowledge intensive industry and the Government of Karnataka’s vision for Karnataka 2025 is to establish the State as a torch bearer for Industry 4.0. It is also the aspiration of the Government that Karnataka should enhance its leadership position in emerging technologies. Towards this end, the Government of Karnataka has taken proactive steps to promote emerging technologies for industry 4.0”
Wishing the India Innovation Summit every success via a video message, Mr. Suresh Prabhu, Hon. Minister of Commerce and Industry, Government of India said that the Government of India was very keen on focusing on Artificial Intelligence as a key thrust area.
Delivering the theme address, Mr. Kris Gopalakrishnan, Chairman, India Innovation Summit said, “India is the third largest ecosystem in the world for startups. Larger disruption will create changes in society, and there is an urgent need to create the right regulations and reskill the workforce in order to take up jobs that will be upgraded due to AI.”
In a special address, Mr. Vijay Thadani, Vice Chairman and Managing Director, NIIT Limited said, “Artificial Intelligence is a powerful tool for inclusive economic growth and a critical factor for its success is actualizing innovation. Going forward the focus must be on improved spending on research by order of magnitude, increase in collaborative R&D and extending of funding in education to include higher education. There is also an urgent need to move from writing and publishing papers to products and further on to profits.”
The summit will witness the participation of over 600 attendees including the industry leaders entrepreneurs and government representatives.
